Description
HVI VT33 Cable Fault Locator Repair
The HVI (High Voltage Inc.) VT33 is a cable fault location system that combines TDR prelocation with surge/impulse generation for pinpointing — a complete locate package from High Voltage Inc. Because it integrates a reflectometer and an impulse generator, its faults span the TDR measurement side and the HV surge side.
June Company repairs and calibrates the HVI VT33 for utility fault crews and underground cable contractors.
Common HVI VT33 problems we fix
- TDR module degradation — the reflectometer giving weak or noisy traces, repaired so prelocation is clean.
- Receiver sensitivity loss — can’t pick up the thump for pinpointing, restored.
- Surge/impulse won’t fire or is weak — HV supply, capacitor, or discharge-switch faults, rebuilt.
- Internal HV arcing — insulation breakdown from stress.
- Control or interlock faults.
FAQs
My VT33 prelocates but won’t pinpoint — fixable? Yes. That’s usually the surge side or the receiver, not the TDR; we isolate the failed stage, repair it, and verify the full locate workflow.
Are both TDR and surge verified? Yes — both are tested together, with documented results.
