Description

StellarNet ChemWiz Handheld Spectrophotometer Repair

June Company repairs the StellarNet ChemWiz at the component level — the detector array, the grating and spectrograph optics, the fibre-optic interface, the light source and the control electronics — rather than swapping modules until something works. Send us the instrument and you get a firm quote before anything is touched, a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on the work, and NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair, and most instruments are back out the door in one to three business days.

Knowing the instrument is the difference between a repair and a parts swap. A fibre-coupled modular spectrometer is a chain — source, fibre, sample interface, spectrograph, detector — and a fault anywhere along it presents as exactly the same symptom: not enough signal. That is good news rather than bad, because it means most of what looks catastrophic turns out to be a fibre, a connector or a lamp rather than the detector everyone fears. We test the chain section by section instead of replacing the most expensive element first. The ChemWiz is the handheld analyser in the range, which adds handling damage to the usual list — fibres and probe interfaces on a portable instrument take wear a bench system never sees.

What is included with every ChemWiz repair

  • Component-level diagnosis and repair — board and component work by certified technicians, not module replacement.
  • A firm quote before any work begins — including which subsystem failed and why, so the decision is yours.
  • 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on everything we repair.
  • NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs.
  • Wavelength and photometric verification against a calibrated reference before the instrument ships back.
  • Evaluation fee credited to the repair — it is not an extra charge on top.
  • No forms and no account needed — send it in and we take it from there.
  • Out-of-warranty and end-of-support instruments welcome — a large share of what comes through the bench.

Common ChemWiz problems we fix

  • Detector array degradation — rising dark noise and falling sensitivity, worst at the ends of the range.
  • Grating and optical alignment drift — wavelength accuracy and resolution falling away after transport or shock.
  • Fibre-optic and probe faults — damaged fibres or poor coupling costing most of the signal while the instrument still appears to work.
  • Light source degradation — lamp output falling, which lengthens integration times and raises noise before it fails outright.
  • Thermal and cooling faults — detector temperature control drifting, which raises the noise floor.
  • Communication and software faults — the spectrometer not being recognised by the host PC, or spectra not writing to the report.

FAQs

What does the evaluation involve, and what does it cost me? We bench-test the instrument, identify the failed subsystem and send you a firm price. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair if you go ahead, so the repair costs what the quote says and nothing more.

Signal has dropped a long way. Does that mean the detector? Usually not. On a modular fibre-coupled system the fibre, the connector or the source is far more common and far cheaper. We work along the chain before touching the detector.

Can you service the source, the fibre and the spectrometer separately? Yes, and that is normally how it goes. The modularity that makes these systems flexible is also what makes them repairable one section at a time.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.

Shipping & Returns

Packing your equipment. You are responsible for packaging equipment adequately for transit. We strongly recommend the original manufacturer’s case, or double-boxing with at least two inches of shock-absorbing material on all six sides. We return your equipment in the packaging it arrived in, so please send it in packaging that will survive the return trip as well. If your packaging is damaged or inadequate for the return, we will substitute suitable packaging and may charge the cost of materials.

Insurance. Equipment is not insured by June Company while in transit. We strongly recommend insuring your shipment for its full replacement value.

Risk of loss. Risk of loss remains with you until your equipment is received at our facility, and transfers back to you when your repaired unit is delivered to the carrier (F.O.B. shipping point). June Company is not responsible for equipment lost, delayed, misdelivered, or damaged in transit, in either direction.

Return label. A prepaid and preprinted return shipping label should be included with your shipment. If one is not included, we will provide one.

Transit damage. Damage occurring in transit is the responsibility of the carrier. It is not a warranty defect and is not covered by the 90-day repair warranty. Any claim must be filed by you with the carrier; we will supply photographs and documentation to support it at no charge.
