Thermo Scientific Gemini Analyzer Repair

The Gemini is unusual: a single 1.9 kg handheld carrying both FTIR and Raman, covering 4,000 to 650 cm-1 on the infrared side through a single-bounce diamond ATR and 250 to 2,875 cm-1 on the Raman side, certified to MIL-STD-810G and IP67. The two techniques are complementary by design, which is why responders value it, and why it is a more involved repair than either alone. There are effectively two analytical systems inside one rugged housing sharing power, control electronics and a display, so a fault in the shared hardware can look like a failure of whichever technique you happened to be using.

FAQs

Raman works but FTIR returns nothing. Is that two repairs? Not necessarily. Because the two modules share power and control hardware, a single upstream fault can take out one side cleanly. We diagnose before assuming.

The FTIR side shows water vapor bands. Is the bench contaminated? Most often it is the desiccant or a seal rather than the bench itself, which is a far less invasive repair.

Do you test both techniques before returning it? Yes. Both are verified against reference samples — returning it with one side working would miss the point of the instrument.
