Thermo Scientific TruDefender FTX Analyzer Repair

The TruDefender FTX is the ruggedized handheld FTIR in the Thermo Scientific responder line: a solid diamond crystal ATR sampling head covering 4,000 to 650 cm-1, in an IP67 housing weighing 3.12 lb and rated from -20 to +40 degrees C. Sampling is self-contained through the anvil head, so solids and liquids are identified in seconds without decanting anything. For repair purposes the sealed optical bench matters as much as the electronics: a spectrum full of water vapor bands is usually a seal or desiccant problem long before it is an optics problem.

Common TruDefender FTX problems we fix

FAQs

My spectra have developed broad water bands. Is the instrument finished? Usually not. That pattern normally points at the desiccant or the bench seal rather than the optics, and it is one of the more recoverable faults on an FTIR.

The ATR crystal is scratched. Does the whole optical module need replacing? Not in most cases. We assess the crystal and its mount separately from the bench and repair at that level where the damage allows.

Do you work on the older TruDefender FT as well as the FTX? Yes. Both come through the bench, and the sealing and interferometer work is much the same across the line.
