Description

SciAps X-505 XRF Analyzer Repair

The X-505 is the smallest and lightest handheld XRF SciAps has built — 2.98 lbs with the battery, a 20 mm² silicon drift detector, a six-position filter wheel, hot-swap batteries and enough thermal headroom to run all day in hot climates without stopping to cool. Its whole design argument is ergonomics and uptime for inspectors who carry it for a full shift, which means the faults that matter most on an X-505 are the ones that interrupt that: heat, power and the filter wheel.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the SciAps X-505 for PMI inspectors, refinery and pipeline QA teams, scrap processors, and metal service centers. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.

Common SciAps X-505 problems we fix

  • Punctured or clouded measurement window — the most common failure on any handheld XRF, and one that degrades light-element results well before it fails outright.
  • Detector resolution loss — peaks broadening until grade matches stop resolving cleanly against the library.
  • X-ray tube output degradation — longer count times needed for the same precision, most visible on trace and light elements.
  • Failed startup standardization — the analyzer no longer standardizing correctly against its calibration reference.
  • Touchscreen, trigger and proximity-interlock failures — the controls and safety interlocks that stop the analyzer firing when they fail.
  • Six-position filter wheel faults — the wheel not indexing, producing errors partway through a measurement.
  • Hot-swap battery faults — the instrument not carrying between packs within the swap window.
  • Heat dissipation faults — the analyzer throttling or shutting down in conditions it used to handle.
  • Display and camera faults — the capacitive display or the sample-viewing camera failing.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity faults — results no longer exporting or syncing to your reporting workflow.

FAQs

My X-505 has started overheating on jobs it used to handle. Repairable? Yes. Thermal performance is a designed-in feature of this model, so losing it usually means a specific fault rather than normal wear.

How does the X-505 differ from the X-550 for repair purposes? The X-550 runs a much higher-powered tube in its low-voltage beam. Same platform, different thermal and tube behavior, and we test them accordingly.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
