Description
SciAps X-5 XRF Analyzer Repair
The X-5 sits at the entry point of the SciAps X-Series, the family SciAps builds around being the smallest and lightest high-precision handheld XRF available — under three pounds, with improved heat dissipation, an integrated camera for sample viewing, and an Android-based interface carrying Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB. That Android platform is worth noting for repair: a fault that looks analytical is sometimes the control hardware, and a fault that looks like software is sometimes the tube.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the SciAps X-5 for scrap sorters, metal service centers, PMI inspectors, and QA teams. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.
Common SciAps X-5 problems we fix
- Punctured or clouded measurement window — the most common failure on any handheld XRF, and one that degrades light-element results well before it fails outright.
- Detector resolution loss — peaks broadening until grade matches stop resolving cleanly against the library.
- X-ray tube output degradation — longer count times needed for the same precision, most visible on trace and light elements.
- Failed startup standardization — the analyzer no longer standardizing correctly against its calibration reference.
- Touchscreen, trigger and proximity-interlock failures — the controls and safety interlocks that stop the analyzer firing when they fail.
- Filter and beam selection faults — beams not switching correctly for the selected application.
- Android platform and display faults — the interface freezing, failing to boot, or losing stored results.
- Battery and hot-swap faults — runtime dropping, or the instrument not carrying between packs.
- Thermal shutdown and heat management faults — duty cycle dropping away in hot working environments.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity faults — results no longer exporting or syncing to your reporting workflow.
FAQs
The analyzer boots but tests fail. Is that the tube or the software? Both are worth ruling out and they present similarly. We diagnose the X-ray path and the control hardware separately rather than assuming.
Can you recover stored results from a unit that will not start? Often, yes. Tell us if data recovery matters and we will attempt it before any board work.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
