Description

Bruker Tracer XRF Analyzer Repair

The TRACER is the research instrument in Bruker’s handheld range, and it is repaired differently from a production alloy gun. The user controls tube voltage and current directly, selects filters from an integrated wheel or inserts custom ones, and can measure in air, under vacuum or under helium purge — the TRACER 5g pushing light-element sensitivity far enough to reach fluorine. Those extra degrees of freedom are extra failure points: vacuum pumps, gas paths, filter mechanisms and user-configurable tube settings all sit outside what a standard handheld even has.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the Bruker TRACER for conservation scientists and museum labs, archaeometry and materials researchers, universities, and analytical consultants. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.

Common Bruker TRACER problems we fix

  • Vacuum pump and vacuum path faults — the chamber not pulling down, which quietly removes light-element performance.
  • Helium purge faults — leaks, restricted flow or regulator problems in the purge path.
  • Filter wheel and custom filter faults — the wheel not indexing, or user-inserted filters not seating correctly.
  • Punctured or clouded measurement window — the most common failure on any handheld XRF, and one that degrades light-element results well before it fails outright.
  • Detector resolution loss — peaks broadening until grade matches stop resolving cleanly against the library.
  • Tube control faults — voltage or current not tracking the values set by the operator.
  • Failed startup standardization — the analyzer no longer standardizing correctly against its calibration reference.
  • Battery, charging and power faults — shortened runtime, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
  • Touchscreen, trigger and proximity-interlock failures — the controls and safety interlocks that stop the analyzer firing when they fail.
  • Software and data export faults — spectra not transferring for external processing.

FAQs

Light-element results have dropped off but the heavy elements look fine. Where do you start? The vacuum or helium path, before anything else. On a TRACER that is the usual cause, and it is often mistaken for detector failure.

Do you work on the older TRACER III and IV as well as the TRACER 5? Yes. The older platforms use different batteries and control hardware, and we ask which generation you have before quoting.

I use non-standard tube settings for my samples. Will you test against those? Tell us the settings and the sample type when you send it, and we will functionally test in a way that reflects how you actually use it.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
