Description
Evident TERRA II XRD Analyzer Repair
The TERRA II is the portable X-ray diffraction analyzer built to take quantitative mineralogy out of the laboratory and onto the site, running a Cu target at 30 kV and 20 W into a Peltier-cooled 2D CCD detector, covering roughly 5 to 55 degrees 2-theta at about 0.2 degrees FWHM resolution, with XRF from 3 to 25 keV alongside. It runs up to six hours on battery in a weatherproof case and returns automated phase identification and quantification through SwiftMin software on the instrument itself.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the TERRA II for mine site geologists, exploration teams, cement and industrial minerals producers and environmental consultants. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified before it ships back.
Common TERRA II problems we fix
- X-ray tube faults — output dropping or failing entirely, which lengthens acquisition or stops it.
- CCD detector faults — noise, dead pixels or cooling failure in the Peltier-cooled detector, which degrades peak resolution.
- Sample chamber and vibration faults — the vibrating sample holder not presenting powder correctly, which quietly ruins quantification.
- Cooling system faults — Peltier cooling losing performance, raising detector noise as the instrument warms.
- Calibration and alignment drift — 2-theta positions shifting, so phase identification returns wrong or low-confidence results.
- Battery and power faults — field runtime falling well short of the rated six hours.
- SwiftMin software and storage faults — results not saving, or the phase library failing to load.
- Display and interface faults — unresponsive controls or panels unreadable in daylight.
- Safety interlock faults — X-ray interlocks failing, which stops the instrument from operating at all, by design.
- Housing and seal damage — case and gasket damage after field transport, admitting dust into the optical path.
FAQs
Do you handle the X-ray tube and radiation safety side? Yes. X-ray sources are handled under the appropriate controls, and the instrument is tested for correct interlock operation before it ships back.
Our quantification has drifted. Where does that usually come from? More often the sample presentation and alignment than the detector. We check the vibration chamber and 2-theta alignment first because those are the cheaper causes.
Do you also repair the BTX III? Yes. The benchtop BTX III shares most of its analytical hardware with the TERRA II.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
