Description

Evident Vanta Max XRF Analyzer Repair

The Vanta Max is the top of the Vanta line: a 4-watt X-ray tube with a rhodium or silver anode running to 50 kV (55 kV on the tungsten-anode variant built for rare earth work), feeding a large-area silicon drift detector behind a graphene window, with an eight-position filter wheel and a solid detector shutter. It covers magnesium through uranium, carries embedded GPS and hot-swap batteries, is IP54 rated and drop tested to MIL-STD-810G, and runs from -10 °C to 50 °C. Almost everything that makes it capable — the shutter, the filter wheel, the thin window, the thermal design — is also where it fails.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the Vanta Max for PMI inspectors, scrap recyclers, mining and exploration geologists, environmental consultants, and foundry QA teams. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.

Common Vanta Max problems we fix

  • Punctured or clouded measurement window — the most common failure on any handheld XRF, and one that degrades light-element results well before it fails outright.
  • Detector shutter faults — the shutter failing to open, close or index — the part fitted specifically to protect the detector on rough surfaces.
  • Detector resolution loss — peaks broadening until grade matches stop resolving cleanly against the library.
  • X-ray tube output degradation — longer count times needed for the same precision, most visible on trace and light elements.
  • Filter wheel faults — the eight-position wheel failing to index, throwing errors partway through a measurement.
  • Thermal shutdown and heat management faults — duty cycle dropping away in hot working environments.
  • Hot-swap battery and charging faults — including the circuit that carries the instrument between packs without shutting down.
  • Failed startup standardization — the analyzer no longer standardizing correctly against its calibration reference.
  • Touchscreen, trigger and proximity-interlock failures — the controls and safety interlocks that stop the analyzer firing when they fail.
  • GPS and geotagging faults — results no longer tagging with location for mapping and audit records.

FAQs

My Vanta Max is reading low on light elements — is that repairable? Usually. Light-element response is the first thing a damaged window or a degraded detector affects, and it is recoverable.

The shutter is sticking. Can that be fixed without replacing the detector module? In most cases, yes. We diagnose the shutter mechanism on its own and repair it before it becomes a detector failure.

Do you repair the 55 kV tungsten-anode Vanta Max as well? Yes. Both the 50 kV Rh/Ag and the 55 kV tungsten configurations come through the bench.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
