Description
Evident 45MG Thickness Gauge Repair
The 45MG is the general-purpose ultrasonic thickness gauge in the Evident range, compatible with the complete set of dual and single element transducers and extended by five code-activated software options, including Echo-to-Echo and THRU-COAT, a single-element mode for Microscan transducers from 2.25 to 30 MHz, and a high-penetration mode reaching down to 0.5 MHz. It shows the live A-scan on the gauge itself and carries a bidirectional alphanumeric data logger that feeds GageView. That flexibility is why a lot of inspection companies standardize on it, which in turn means a failed one usually stops more than one job.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the 45MG for corrosion survey teams, refinery and petrochemical inspectors, utilities, and general NDT service companies. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified against calibrated reference blocks before it ships back.
Common 45MG problems we fix
- Probe, connector and cable faults — intermittent or dead channels that trace back to worn connectors rather than the probe itself.
- Pulser-receiver and gain faults — losing the backwall on material the gauge used to read reliably.
- Display and touchscreen failures — dim, dead or unresponsive panels, including digitizer faults that make the interface unusable in the field.
- Battery, charging and power faults — shortened runtime, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
- Keypad and interface wear — controls becoming unreliable after sustained field use.
- USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication faults — results not transferring to the host software, or the instrument not being recognized at all.
- Housing, seal and ruggedization damage — cracked enclosures and failed gaskets after a drop, which let dust and moisture inside the instrument.
- Calibration and velocity-table faults — the gauge not calibrating reliably against reference standards.
- Software option and mode faults — optional measurement modes not enabling or not behaving correctly.
- Data logging and export faults — readings not storing or not transferring to the reporting software.
FAQs
Readings jump around on the same spot. Gauge or transducer? More often the transducer or its cable than the gauge. We test with a known-good probe first, which is the cheapest way to find out.
Our software options stopped working after a fault. Are those recoverable? Generally yes — option faults usually sit with the instrument configuration or the board rather than the license itself.
Do you verify it against reference blocks before return? Yes, and you get the verification results with the instrument.
