Fluke 180 Series Multimeter Repair (187, 189)

Status: Discontinued — Replaced by 287 / 289

Overview

The Fluke 187 and 189 were Fluke’s first true-RMS logging multimeters, bridging the gap between standard handheld DMMs and the current 280 Series. The 189 offered 50,000-count resolution, Min/Max/Avg recording, and TrendCapture-style logging before the 289 existed. The 187 provided the same measurement engine with 20,000-count resolution. Both models were rated CAT III 1000 V and remained popular in industrial and lab environments for years after discontinuation. The 287 and 289 are their direct replacements.

Common Fluke 180 Series Failures We Repair

  • LCD display degradation — fading, missing segments from age
  • Rotary switch contact wear from extended use
  • Input protection circuit aging after years of service
  • Battery compartment corrosion
  • IR communication port failure affecting data download
  • Internal EEPROM failure causing calibration data loss

Our technicians perform component-level diagnostics on every Fluke 180 Series unit. We don’t just replace boards — we identify and repair the specific failed components, saving you the cost of full module replacements when possible.

Calibration

Every Fluke 180 Series repair includes NIST-traceable calibration. We verify all measurement functions — DC/AC voltage, DC/AC current, resistance, and any additional functions — against our reference standards and provide a detailed calibration certificate documenting measured performance against the manufacturer’s published specifications.
