Fluke 80V Series Industrial Multimeter Repair

Status: 87V Current Production — 83V / 88V Discontinued

Overview

The Fluke 80V Series represents Fluke’s flagship handheld industrial digital multimeters. The 87V is the most widely used industrial DMM in the world, trusted by electricians, technicians, and engineers for its accuracy, durability, and advanced troubleshooting features. The 87V provides true-RMS AC measurements, a built-in thermometer, adjustable low-pass filter for accurate measurements on variable frequency drives (VFDs), and peak capture for detecting transients. The 83V offers core industrial measurement capability at a lower price point. The 88V (Automotive Meter) adds RPM, duty cycle, and pulse width measurements for automotive diagnostics. All 80V Series meters are rated CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V.

Common Fluke 80V Series Failures We Repair

  • Input protection circuit damage from overvoltage events or incorrect input terminal selection
  • Rotary selector switch contact wear causing intermittent or incorrect range selection
  • LCD display segment failure or contrast degradation
  • Battery compartment corrosion from field moisture or leaking cells
  • Test lead input jack wear from thousands of insertion cycles
  • Fuse holder contact degradation causing intermittent current readings
  • Internal circuit board trace damage from high-energy transient events

Our technicians perform component-level diagnostics on every Fluke 80V Series unit. We don’t just replace boards — we identify and repair the specific failed components, saving you the cost of full module replacements when possible.

Calibration

Every Fluke 80V Series repair includes NIST-traceable calibration. We verify all measurement functions — DC/AC voltage, DC/AC current, resistance, and any additional functions — against our reference standards and provide a detailed calibration certificate documenting measured performance against the manufacturer’s published specifications.

Who Uses the Fluke 80V Series?

The Fluke 83V / 87V / 88V Industrial Digital Multimeters are used by industrial electricians, plant maintenance technicians, HVAC/R technicians, automotive mechanics (88V), VFD installers, and field service engineers.
