Description

ASD HandHeld 2 Spectroradiometer Repair

The HandHeld 2 is the field spectroradiometer a great many vegetation, soil and remote-sensing programs are built around: a 325 to 1075 nm VNIR range, roughly 3 nm spectral resolution with about 1 nm wavelength accuracy, and a standard 25-degree field of view, all in a unit under three pounds that runs on rechargeable batteries. It is carried into places laboratory instruments never go, and that is exactly why the wear we see on them is mechanical as often as it is optical.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the HandHeld 2 for field spectroscopy teams, agricultural researchers, remote-sensing groups, soil scientists and university labs. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified before it ships back.

Common HandHeld 2 problems we fix

  • Detector and array faults — dark or noisy channels across part of the 325 to 1075 nm range, which show up as gaps rather than as an obvious failure.
  • Wavelength calibration drift — readings that no longer line up with reference standards, so spectra compare badly against archived data.
  • Optical contamination — dust, moisture or fogging inside the optical path after seasons of field work, cutting throughput.
  • Illumination and lamp faults — the internal source weakening or failing, which biases reflectance measurements.
  • Battery and power faults — shortened runtime, or the instrument shutting down partway through a transect.
  • Trigger and switch wear — the pistol grip trigger becoming unreliable after heavy use.
  • Fiber optic damage — broken or pinched fibers, usually where the cable leaves the housing.
  • Display and interface faults — dim or unresponsive panels that make field operation guesswork.
  • Data transfer and storage faults — spectra not saving, or files not moving across to the host software.
  • Housing and seal damage — cracked enclosures and failed gaskets after a drop, letting dust and moisture inside.

FAQs

Can you still repair a HandHeld 2 given its age? Yes. These are mechanically straightforward instruments and most of what we see is optical contamination, batteries, triggers and fiber damage rather than anything terminal. We quote before any work.

Do you recalibrate after the repair? Every instrument is verified against reference standards before it ships back. If a full wavelength recalibration is needed we say so at quote stage.

Do you handle the HandHeld 2 Pro as well? Yes, and the wider ASD FieldSpec line. They come through regularly.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.

Shipping & Returns

Packing your equipment. You are responsible for packaging equipment adequately for transit. We strongly recommend the original manufacturer’s case, or double-boxing with at least two inches of shock-absorbing material on all six sides. We return your equipment in the packaging it arrived in, so please send it in packaging that will survive the return trip as well. If your packaging is damaged or inadequate for the return, we will substitute suitable packaging and may charge the cost of materials.

Insurance. Equipment is not insured by June Company while in transit. We strongly recommend insuring your shipment for its full replacement value.

Risk of loss. Risk of loss remains with you until your equipment is received at our facility, and transfers back to you when your repaired unit is delivered to the carrier (F.O.B. shipping point). June Company is not responsible for equipment lost, delayed, misdelivered, or damaged in transit, in either direction.

Return label. A prepaid and preprinted return shipping label should be included with your shipment. If one is not included, we will provide one.

Transit damage. Damage occurring in transit is the responsibility of the carrier. It is not a warranty defect and is not covered by the 90-day repair warranty. Any claim must be filed by you with the carrier; we will supply photographs and documentation to support it at no charge.
