Description

ASD HandHeld 2 Pro Spectroradiometer Repair

The HandHeld 2 Pro is the higher-sensitivity version of the ASD HandHeld 2, covering the same 325 to 1075 nm VNIR range at roughly 3 nm resolution but with around five times the measurement sensitivity and onboard GPS. That extra sensitivity is what makes it usable on low-reflectance targets such as water surfaces, and it is also what makes detector and optical faults more obvious on this model than on the standard unit.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the HandHeld 2 Pro for remote-sensing teams, water-quality researchers, agricultural scientists, mining geologists and university labs. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified before it ships back.

Common HandHeld 2 Pro problems we fix

  • Detector sensitivity loss — the advantage this model is bought for quietly eroding, which shows on low-reflectance targets first.
  • Wavelength calibration drift — spectra no longer matching reference standards or archived measurements.
  • GPS module faults — position not logging or not attaching to spectra, which breaks the field workflow.
  • Optical contamination — dust, moisture or fogging in the optical path reducing throughput.
  • Illumination and lamp faults — internal source output dropping, biasing reflectance results.
  • Battery and charging faults — runtime falling short of a full day in the field.
  • Fiber optic damage — broken or pinched fibers, most often at the housing exit.
  • Trigger and keypad wear — controls becoming unreliable after sustained field use.
  • Display faults — panels too dim to read in daylight, or unresponsive.
  • Housing and seal damage — cracked cases and failed gaskets after impact, admitting dust and moisture.

FAQs

How do we know if the sensitivity has degraded? We test against reference standards on low-reflectance targets, which is where loss shows first. If the detector is within specification we tell you that rather than selling you a repair.

Is GPS failure worth repairing on its own? Usually yes, and it is often a connector or antenna rather than the module. We quote it separately so you can decide.

Do you service the standard HandHeld 2 too? Yes, along with the wider ASD FieldSpec range.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.

Shipping & Returns

Packing your equipment. You are responsible for packaging equipment adequately for transit. We strongly recommend the original manufacturer’s case, or double-boxing with at least two inches of shock-absorbing material on all six sides. We return your equipment in the packaging it arrived in, so please send it in packaging that will survive the return trip as well. If your packaging is damaged or inadequate for the return, we will substitute suitable packaging and may charge the cost of materials.

Insurance. Equipment is not insured by June Company while in transit. We strongly recommend insuring your shipment for its full replacement value.

Risk of loss. Risk of loss remains with you until your equipment is received at our facility, and transfers back to you when your repaired unit is delivered to the carrier (F.O.B. shipping point). June Company is not responsible for equipment lost, delayed, misdelivered, or damaged in transit, in either direction.

Return label. A prepaid and preprinted return shipping label should be included with your shipment. If one is not included, we will provide one.

Transit damage. Damage occurring in transit is the responsibility of the carrier. It is not a warranty defect and is not covered by the 90-day repair warranty. Any claim must be filed by you with the carrier; we will supply photographs and documentation to support it at no charge.
