Description
ASD LabSpec Spectrometer Repair
The LabSpec is the laboratory-oriented member of the ASD spectrometer family, covering 350 to 2,500 nm at roughly 3 nm VNIR resolution with 6 nm SWIR on the Hi-Res model and 10 nm on the standard, and compatible with the full set of ASD bifurcated probes and lighted accessories. The improved SWIR resolution is what lets it pick out narrow features in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, soil mineralogy and petrochemicals, and the Hi-Res i model carries an internal broad-spectrum halogen source instead of needing an external fiber-optic lamp. Being a laboratory instrument spares it the transport damage its field siblings collect, but not the things that actually limit spectrometer life: detector noise, lamp aging, fiber damage and calibration drift.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the LabSpec for materials laboratories, agricultural and food scientists, pharmaceutical QC teams, and research groups. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified against known reference standards before it ships back.
Common LabSpec problems we fix
- SWIR detector cooling and performance faults — rising noise in the shortwave infrared, which limits what the instrument can resolve.
- VNIR detector faults — noise or sensitivity loss across the visible and near-infrared region.
- Fiber-optic cable and connector faults — broken or crushed fibers, and end faces damaged enough to lose most of the light.
- Illumination source faults — lamp output falling, which changes spectra without producing an error.
- Optical alignment drift — throughput falling away after a drop or a shock, with peak positions no longer landing where the library expects.
- Detector step and splice artifacts — discontinuities appearing at the detector transitions.
- Radiometric and white-reference faults — white reference no longer normalizing correctly.
- USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication faults — results not transferring to the host software, or the instrument not being recognized at all.
- Failed startup self-check or calibration verification — the instrument no longer verifying correctly against its internal reference.
- Power supply and control board faults — intermittent startup or shutdowns partway through a run.
FAQs
Our chemometric models have started predicting badly. Instrument or model? Worth answering before rebuilding models, which is expensive. We verify against reference standards to establish which side the problem is on.
How long do the lamps last, and do you replace them? They age gradually rather than failing outright, which is why the symptom is drift rather than an error. Yes, we replace them and verify afterwards.
Do you repair the LabSpec 4 and older LabSpec Pro units? Yes, across the LabSpec generations.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
