ASD TerraSpec Spectrometer Repair

The TerraSpec is the ASD spectrometer built for mineralogy, a full-range 350 to 2,500 nm Vis-NIR-SWIR instrument resolving roughly 3 nm at 700 nm and about 10 nm at 1,400 and 2,100 nm, used to identify alteration minerals at the drill core shed and in the field rather than in a laboratory. On the Halo variant identification comes from a trigger pull against an onboard mineral library. Mineral work depends on fine spectral features, so this is an instrument where gradual degradation matters: losing resolution or signal in the SWIR does not stop it working, it quietly stops it distinguishing the minerals you bought it to distinguish.

FAQs

We can no longer separate minerals that used to resolve cleanly. Is that the instrument? Very likely. That symptom is characteristic of SWIR noise or lost resolution, and it is measurable against reference standards.

The contact probe lamp seems weak. Is that part of the repair? Yes — send the probe with the instrument. Illumination faults are a frequent cause of spectra that look wrong for no visible reason.

Do you service the LabSpec and FieldSpec as well? Yes, the whole ASD line comes through the same bench.
