Description

SciAps LIBS Z-70 Analyzer Repair

The Z-70 is the air-burn instrument in the Z-Series: built for material identification and sorting rather than high-precision quantitative analysis, it operates in air rather than under argon purge. That makes it the simplest Z to own and, for repair, the one where laser and optics condition matters most — there is no purge to compensate for a weak plasma, so degradation in the laser or the optical path shows up directly in sorting confidence.

June Company’s certified technicians repair the SciAps Z-70 for scrap yards and recyclers, metal service centers, and material verification teams. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.

Common SciAps Z-70 problems we fix

  • Laser output degradation — weak or inconsistent ablation, showing up as unstable results before it shows up as no result at all.
  • Optical path and fiber contamination — plasma light not reaching the spectrometer cleanly.
  • Spectrometer faults — peak positions shifting and element identification becoming unreliable.
  • Grade ID confidence dropping — sorting decisions becoming ambiguous where they used to be clean — the practical symptom of a weak plasma.
  • Ablation window and spark-position faults — the laser no longer focusing at the correct standoff.
  • Laser safety interlock and sample sensor faults — the analyzer refusing to fire — working as designed, and repairable.
  • Battery and charging faults — runtime dropping, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
  • Targeting and macro camera faults — the internal camera no longer aiming the laser accurately on small features.
  • Software and results export faults — sorting records not transferring off the instrument.

FAQs

Can a Z-70 be upgraded to an argon-purge model? SciAps offers upgrade paths within the Z-Series. That is a purchasing question for them, but worth knowing before you decide between repairing and upgrading.

My sorting has become inconsistent rather than failing outright. Is that repairable? Yes, and it is the typical Z-70 complaint. Without argon purge there is nothing masking a weakening laser, so inconsistency is usually the first real symptom.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
