Description
StellarNet HYPER-Nova Raman Spectrometer Repair
June Company repairs the StellarNet HYPER-Nova at the component level — the excitation laser, the spectrograph and grating, the cooled detector, the fibre-optic interface and the control electronics — rather than swapping modules until something works. Send us the instrument and you get a firm quote before anything is touched, a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on the work, and NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair, and most instruments are back out the door in one to three business days.
Knowing the instrument is the difference between a repair and a parts swap. The HYPER-Nova is a modular Raman spectrometer rather than a sealed handheld, which changes the repair picture entirely. Its performance depends on a chain of separable parts — laser module, fibre-optic probe and coupling, spectrograph and grating, cooled detector — and a fault anywhere in that chain presents as the same symptom: weak signal. That is good news, because it means much of what looks catastrophic is a connector, a fibre or a coupling rather than the detector. We test the chain section by section instead of replacing the most expensive element first.
What is included with every HYPER-Nova repair
- Component-level diagnosis and repair — board and component work by certified technicians, not module replacement.
- A firm quote before any work begins — including which subsystem failed and why, so the decision is yours.
- 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on everything we repair.
- NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs.
- Functional testing against a known reference sample before the instrument ships back.
- Evaluation fee credited to the repair — it is not an extra charge on top.
- No forms and no account needed — send it in and we take it from there.
- Out-of-warranty and end-of-support instruments welcome — a large share of what comes through the bench.
Common HYPER-Nova problems we fix
- Laser output degradation — excitation power falling until spectra get noisy and integration times climb.
- Fibre-optic probe and coupling faults — damaged fibres or poor coupling costing most of the signal while everything still appears to work.
- Grating and spectrograph alignment drift — peak positions shifting or resolution falling away after transport or shock.
- Cooled detector faults — thermoelectric cooling drifting, which raises the noise floor and lengthens every acquisition.
- Detector degradation — rising noise floor and falling sensitivity, worst on weak bands and trace components.
- Optical alignment drift — throughput falling away after a drop, with peaks no longer landing where the library expects.
- Battery, charging and power faults — shortened runtime, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
- Display and touchscreen failures — dim, dead or unresponsive panels, including digitizer faults that make it unusable in gloves.
- USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth faults — results not transferring to the host software, or the instrument not being recognised at all.
- Failed startup self-check or calibration verification — no longer verifying correctly against its internal reference standard.
FAQs
What does the evaluation involve, and what does it cost me? We bench-test the instrument, identify the failed subsystem and send you a firm price. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair if you go ahead, so the repair costs what the quote says and nothing more.
Signal has collapsed. Does that mean the detector? Usually not. On a modular system a fibre, a connector or the probe coupling is far more common, and much cheaper. We work along the chain before touching the detector.
Can you service the spectrograph and the laser module separately? Yes, and that is normally how it goes. The modularity that makes these systems flexible also makes them repairable one section at a time.
