Description
SciAps LIBS Z-901 Analyzer Repair
The Z-901 is the single-spectrometer instrument in the SciAps Z-Series, covering roughly 200–440 nm and factory calibrated for a suite of 15 to 20 elements depending on application, with dedicated lithium configurations for pegmatite, clay and mica work. It fires a 1 ns pulsed laser at up to 50 Hz, uses a user-replaceable argon canister for purge, and carries a Y-stage that rasters the laser to discrete locations. Every one of those is a laser-and-gas fault domain, not an X-ray one, and it needs different diagnosis from the XRF instruments sitting next to it on the shelf.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the SciAps Z-901 for lithium exploration and mining teams, geochemists, scrap sorters, and PMI inspectors. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.
Common SciAps Z-901 problems we fix
- Laser output degradation — weak or inconsistent ablation, showing up as unstable results before it shows up as no result at all.
- Argon purge and canister faults — leaks, restricted flow or regulator problems — purge quality drives precision on this platform.
- Optical path and fiber contamination — plasma light not reaching the spectrometer cleanly.
- Spectrometer faults — peak positions shifting and element identification becoming unreliable.
- Ablation window and spark-position faults — the laser no longer focusing at the correct standoff.
- Laser raster stage faults — the Y-stage not moving the laser to the requested positions for targeted or averaged analysis.
- Dual burn mode faults — air-burn operation not switching in correctly when argon is not required.
- Laser safety interlock and sample sensor faults — the analyzer refusing to fire — working as designed, and repairable.
- Battery and charging faults — runtime dropping, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
- Targeting and macro camera faults — the internal camera no longer aiming the laser accurately on small features.
FAQs
Do you actually service LIBS instruments, or only XRF? LIBS specifically. The Z-901 is a laser, optical and gas-path instrument, and we diagnose it as one.
My results have become erratic rather than wrong. Where does that usually trace to? Argon purge or laser output. Both cause scatter before they cause outright failure, which is why it reads as inconsistency.
I have the lithium configuration. Will you test against that? Tell us when you send it and we will functionally test against the calibration you actually use.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
