Description

Metrohm MIRA DS Handheld Raman Analyzer Repair

June Company repairs the Metrohm MIRA DS at the component level — the 785 nm laser, the Orbital Raster Scan assembly, the detector, the ruggedised housing seals and the control boards — rather than swapping modules until something works. Send us the instrument and you get a firm quote before anything is touched, a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on the work, and NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair, and most instruments are back out the door in one to three business days.

Knowing the instrument is the difference between a repair and a parts swap. The MIRA DS is the defence and security build — the one that goes to a roadside, a shipping container or a clandestine lab, and gets treated accordingly. Its repair profile is dominated by that: drops, seal failures and sampling-interface damage arrive far more often than electronics faults, and a cracked housing that lets dust onto the optics will cost throughput long before anything stops working. It is also the instrument most likely to be used by someone wearing gloves in the dark, so touchscreen and digitizer faults are not cosmetic here. We repair the optics, laser and scanner at component level and restore the sealing that keeps the field out of the bench.

What is included with every MIRA DS repair

  • Component-level diagnosis and repair — board and component work by certified technicians, not module replacement.
  • A firm quote before any work begins — including which subsystem failed and why, so the decision is yours.
  • 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on everything we repair.
  • NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs.
  • Functional testing against a known reference sample before the instrument ships back.
  • Evaluation fee credited to the repair — it is not an extra charge on top.
  • No forms and no account needed — send it in and we take it from there.
  • Out-of-warranty and end-of-support instruments welcome — a large share of what comes through the bench.

Common MIRA DS problems we fix

  • Laser output degradation — 785 nm excitation power falling until spectra get noisy and match confidence drops.
  • Orbital Raster Scan faults — the scanner no longer sweeping cleanly, so a heterogeneous sample reads as whatever sat under the beam.
  • Housing, seal and ruggedisation damage — cracked enclosures and failed gaskets after a drop, letting dust and moisture reach the optics.
  • Sapphire window and sampling interface damage — scratching or clouding where the sample actually meets the optics.
  • Detector degradation — rising noise floor and falling sensitivity, worst on weak bands and trace components.
  • Optical alignment drift — throughput falling away after a drop, with peaks no longer landing where the library expects.
  • Battery, charging and power faults — shortened runtime, or shutdowns partway through a shift.
  • Display and touchscreen failures — dim, dead or unresponsive panels, including digitizer faults that make it unusable in gloves.
  • USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth faults — results not transferring to the host software, or the instrument not being recognised at all.
  • Failed startup self-check or calibration verification — no longer verifying correctly against its internal reference standard.

FAQs

What does the evaluation involve, and what does it cost me? We bench-test the instrument, identify the failed subsystem and send you a firm price. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair if you go ahead, so the repair costs what the quote says and nothing more.

It was dropped and still powers on. Is it worth sending in? Yes, and sooner rather than later. Alignment drift and a compromised seal both degrade quietly — the instrument keeps answering, it just starts being wrong.

Do you handle instruments that have been used on unknown or hazardous samples? Yes. Tell us what it has seen when you send it and we will handle it accordingly.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
