Description
Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD+ Handheld XRF Analyzer Repair
The XL3t GOLDD+ is the high-performance member of the XL3 family. GOLDD — Geometrically Optimized Large Area Drift Detector — places a larger drift detector closer to the sample, delivering light-element analysis from magnesium to sulfur without helium purge or a vacuum pump, measurement times up to ten times faster than Si-PIN detectors, and up to three times better precision than smaller silicon drift detectors. Because the model’s advantage lives almost entirely in that detector and its geometry, detector-side faults cost more here than on a standard XL3t — and they show up first in the light elements.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the Niton XL3t GOLDD+ for light-element analysis users, mining and exploration geologists, refinery PMI teams, and consumer-safety labs. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.
Common Niton XL3t GOLDD+ problems we fix
- GOLDD detector degradation — light elements from magnesium to sulfur losing sensitivity first, before heavier elements show any change.
- Punctured or clouded measurement window — particularly damaging on this model, since light-element performance depends on a clean X-ray path.
- X-ray tube output degradation — eroding the speed advantage the GOLDD+ was bought for.
- F — i.
- T — h.
- Tilting display hinge and ribbon failures — shared with the standard XL3t.
- B — a.
FAQs
Light elements are weak but iron and nickel read fine — what is that? That pattern is characteristic of a degraded window or GOLDD detector. Light elements are always the early warning, and it is repairable.
Is the GOLDD detector serviceable, or is it a whole-unit write-off? It is serviceable in most cases. We diagnose the detector and the X-ray path before recommending anything, and quote before work begins.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
