Description
Thermo Scientific Niton DXL Precious Metal Analyzer Repair
The Niton DXL is not a handheld — it is a closed-beam benchtop analyzer built for counter use in retail settings. A silver-anode X-ray tube running to 45 kV and 80 µA fires into a shielded sample chamber with an LED-lit interior, an internal CCD camera for positioning, an 8 mm measurement area and puncture-resistant chamber windows, reading 21 elements including all the precious metals. Because the beam is enclosed, the chamber door interlock is a load-bearing part: when it fails, the instrument correctly refuses to fire, and the analyzer appears dead when nothing else is wrong.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the Niton DXL for retail jewelers, pawn operators, refiners, assay offices, and precious metal buyers. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally tested against a known reference sample before it ships back.
Common Niton DXL problems we fix
- Chamber door interlock failures — the unit refusing to fire with no other symptom — the most common DXL service call, and the safety system working as designed.
- Punctured or clouded chamber windows — the puncture-resistant windows degrading with sample contact.
- Silicon detector resolution loss — karat values drifting away from a known reference.
- X-ray tube output degradation — longer readings and reduced repeatability.
- CCD camera and sample-positioning faults — the operator no longer able to place small items accurately.
- C — h.
- T — o.
FAQs
My DXL will not start a reading at all — is it dead? Very often not. The chamber door interlock is the usual cause, and the instrument is refusing to fire on purpose. It is a repairable fault.
Karat values no longer match my reference sample. Repairable? Yes. That normally traces to the detector or the chamber window, and both are serviceable.
