Description
Malvern Panalytical Epsilon 1 XRF Analyzer Repair
The Epsilon 1 is the fully integrated benchtop energy dispersive XRF spectrometer, combining the spectrometer, onboard computer, touchscreen and analysis software in a single unit. It excites from 7 kV to 30 kV to reach light and heavy elements alike, measures from sodium to americium, uses a sensitive silicon drift detector and needs no helium, which is what keeps its cost per analysis low. It complies with ISO 13032 and similar methods, so when it drifts, the compliance argument drifts with it.
June Company’s certified technicians repair the Epsilon 1 for cement and minerals producers, petrochemical laboratories, metals processors and quality control groups. We diagnose and repair at the board and component level, and every instrument is functionally verified before it ships back.
Common Epsilon 1 problems we fix
- X-ray tube faults — output falling or failing, which lengthens count times before it stops analysis outright.
- SDD detector faults — resolution degrading or cooling failing, which broadens peaks and undermines light-element work first.
- Detector cooling faults — Peltier cooling losing performance, raising noise as the instrument warms through a run.
- Filter wheel and mechanism faults — filters not positioning correctly, which changes excitation conditions without an obvious error.
- Sample handling faults — the sample stage or spinner failing to present samples consistently.
- Calibration drift — standards no longer reading true, which is a compliance problem as much as a technical one.
- Onboard computer and software faults — the system not booting, or Epsilon software failing to load calibrations.
- Touchscreen and display faults — unresponsive panels on an instrument driven entirely through its screen.
- Safety interlock faults — X-ray interlocks failing and correctly preventing operation.
- Power supply faults — high-voltage instability showing as inconsistent results rather than a clean failure.
FAQs
Light elements have gone soft. Detector or tube? Usually the detector or its cooling, because light-element sensitivity degrades first. We test both before quoting, since a tube is the more expensive wrong answer.
Will our calibrations survive the repair? Yes in almost all cases, and we confirm before any work that could affect them. We verify against your standards before return.
Do you handle other Epsilon instruments? Yes, and the wider Malvern Panalytical range.
Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.
