Description

Spectral Evolution NaturaSpec Plus Spectroradiometer Repair

June Company repairs the Spectral Evolution NaturaSpec Plus at the component level — the silicon and InGaAs detector arrays, the spectrograph optics, the fibre-optic and foreoptic interface, and the control electronics — rather than swapping modules until something works. Send us the instrument and you get a firm quote before anything is touched, a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on the work, and NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair, and most instruments are back out the door in one to three business days.

Knowing the instrument is the difference between a repair and a parts swap. A field spectroradiometer almost never fails in a way that stops it working. It keeps producing spectra, and the spectra are wrong — which on this class of instrument matters more than on most, because the whole point is radiometric accuracy rather than peak positions. The tell is usually a step at the junction between the silicon and InGaAs arrays, where one detector has drifted relative to its neighbour, and it is easy to mistake for a property of the target. We verify against a calibrated reference rather than a self-test, because a self-test cannot see this. The NaturaSpec Plus extends that capability further up the range, and the more of the SWIR an instrument covers the more it depends on InGaAs performance staying where it should.

What is included with every NaturaSpec Plus repair

  • Component-level diagnosis and repair — board and component work by certified technicians, not module replacement.
  • A firm quote before any work begins — including which subsystem failed and why, so the decision is yours.
  • 90-day parts-and-labor warranty on everything we repair.
  • NIST-traceable calibration included with most repairs.
  • Radiometric verification against a calibrated reference before the instrument ships back.
  • Evaluation fee credited to the repair — it is not an extra charge on top.
  • No forms and no account needed — send it in and we take it from there.
  • Out-of-warranty and end-of-support instruments welcome — a large share of what comes through the bench.

Common NaturaSpec Plus problems we fix

  • Detector array step artefacts — a discontinuity appearing at the junction between the silicon and InGaAs arrays — the classic sign that one array has drifted relative to its neighbour.
  • InGaAs detector degradation and cooling faults — the SWIR arrays losing sensitivity or their thermal control drifting, which raises noise across the longest wavelengths first.
  • Silicon array degradation — falling response in the visible and near-visible region, usually seen as noise on dark targets.
  • Fibre-optic and foreoptic damage — broken fibres, damaged connectors or a degraded foreoptic, all of which cost signal while the instrument still reports normally.
  • Radiometric calibration drift — the instrument still measuring, but no longer measuring correctly against a calibrated source.
  • Battery, charging and power faults — shortened runtime in the field, or shutdowns partway through a collection.
  • Housing, seal and weather damage — enclosure and gasket failures after sustained outdoor use, which let moisture reach the optics.
  • Data transfer and software faults — spectra not transferring to the host software, or the instrument not being recognised at all.

FAQs

What does the evaluation involve, and what does it cost me? We bench-test the instrument, identify the failed subsystem and send you a firm price. The evaluation fee is credited to the repair if you go ahead, so the repair costs what the quote says and nothing more.

There is a step in our spectra at the detector join. Is the instrument finished? No, and it is one of the more common things we see. It means one array has drifted relative to the other, and correcting it is calibration and detector work rather than replacement.

We collect in the field in poor weather. Do you handle the enclosure as well as the optics? Yes, and it is worth doing together. A gasket that is letting moisture in will reach the optics eventually, and condensation inside a spectroradiometer is far more expensive than the seal that caused it.

Every repair is backed by a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, with a firm quote before any work begins. Email us or submit a service request.

Shipping & Returns

Packing your equipment. You are responsible for packaging equipment adequately for transit. We strongly recommend the original manufacturer’s case, or double-boxing with at least two inches of shock-absorbing material on all six sides. We return your equipment in the packaging it arrived in, so please send it in packaging that will survive the return trip as well. If your packaging is damaged or inadequate for the return, we will substitute suitable packaging and may charge the cost of materials.

Insurance. Equipment is not insured by June Company while in transit. We strongly recommend insuring your shipment for its full replacement value.

Risk of loss. Risk of loss remains with you until your equipment is received at our facility, and transfers back to you when your repaired unit is delivered to the carrier (F.O.B. shipping point). June Company is not responsible for equipment lost, delayed, misdelivered, or damaged in transit, in either direction.

Return label. A prepaid and preprinted return shipping label should be included with your shipment. If one is not included, we will provide one.

Transit damage. Damage occurring in transit is the responsibility of the carrier. It is not a warranty defect and is not covered by the 90-day repair warranty. Any claim must be filed by you with the carrier; we will supply photographs and documentation to support it at no charge.
